Malheur Benson Pond Work Party

— filed under:
When: May 20, 2017 from 08:00 am to 03:00 pm

Join Portland Audubon at Benson Pond on the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, as we work to enhance the habitat and visitor amenities of this very special birding hotspot.

Where: Meet at Benson Pond at 8 a.m. on Malheur National Wildlife Refuge

Join the Audubon Society of Portland at Benson Pond on the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, as we work to enhance the habitat and visitor amenities of this very special birding hotspot. We will maintain and enhance walking trails, plant trees, and make repairs to the historic pump house structure which will serve as a new visitor hut. Bring lunch and water, and dress for the weather.

While you're at the refuge, take time to enjoy the abundance of wildlife. Late May on the refuge is for arriving and recently arrived migratory songbird species like the Yellow Warbler, Bullock's Oriole, and Warbling Vireo. Benson Pond also regularly hosts the majestic Trumpeter Swan, a rarity on the refuge, and is home to nesting Great Horned Owls.

Lodging options: City of Hines and City of Burns, 32 miles north of Refuge Headquarters, provides lodging accommodations. Please contact Harney County Chamber of Commerce at 541-573-2636 or visit their website.

Please complete the RSVP form and we will get in touch with more details.

Contact Joe Liebezeit (jliebezeit@audubonportland.org, 971-222-6121) if you have questions.

Thanks for working with us to care for your public lands!
