Portland author and naturalist Ceiridwen Terrill comes to Heron Hall on December 13 at 7:00 to discuss her new book Part Wild: One Woman’s Journey with a Creature Caught Between the Worlds of Wolves and Dogs (Scribner, $25.00). The book captures the story of her almost four year adventure with a wolf-dog hybrid names Inyo. Acquired to be Terrill’s protector against abusive relationships and a talisman of the beauty of the wild, Inyo’s basic nature cannot be controlled despite the strong bond between woman and wolfdog.
Weaving together extensive research gathered from geneticists, wildlife biologists, dog trainers and wolf rescuers with her own experiences, Terrill’s bittersweet memoir is a cautionary tale of what can go terribly wrong when humans misunderstand the true wildness of other creatures.
After her presentation, she will be available to sign books purchased in the Nature Store.
Ceiridwen Terrill is an associate professor at Concordia University in northeast Portland, teaching courses in environmental journalism and science writing. Her previous book, Unnatural Landscapes: Tracking Invasive Species deals with the impact of invasives on Baja California. She has also been a peregrine monitor for Portland Audubon.
Nature Night is free and open to the public. Location: Audubon House, 5151 NW Cornell Rd 97210
