Backyard Habitat Certification Program
Conservation of birds and other wildlife begins in the backyard. More than 200 species of birds pass through the metropolitan region each year. Many of these species are experiencing long-term population declines. You can help these birds by providing them with habitat in your backyard. On an increasingly developed landscape, these small pockets of habitat may be critical to their survival.
Turn your backyard into a certified wildlife habitat!

Audubon Society of Portland and Three Rivers Land Conservancy have joined forces to create a new Backyard Habitat Certification Program.
This new collaborative effort will provide technical assistance to small lot, private property owners to restore native wildlife habitat in their backyards. The program was launched in January 2009 within the City of Portland. If you are outside of the City of Portland – stay tuned… we are looking to expand into the surrounding areas.
The goals are to assist property owners through three levels of advanced habitat restoration. The program focuses on the removal of aggressive weeds, naturescaping with native plants, stormwater management and wildlife stewardship.
