State of Oregon's Birds

Oregon is an amazing place for birds! Nearly 500 bird species use Oregon for some part of their life cycle. Of these more than 200 pass through the Portland Metropolitan Region each year. Our state ranks 5th in the nation for bird diversity. However many of our native bird species are in trouble. Nearly 25% of species found in Oregon are suffering long term declines and 11% of the species found in Oregon are either already critically imperiled or likely to become critically imperiled in the near future. The trends in our state reflect similar trends nationwide.
