The Portland metropolitan region offers a rich array of birding opportunities in its many wildlife refuges and natural areas. Birders who want to go further afield can visit the state’s more remote birding hotspots or explore Oregon Birding Trails.

In September and October, raptor enthusiasts should also visit Bonney Butte, located on the southeastern flanks of Mount Hood. The site is home to the largest known fall concentration of migrating raptors in Oregon.
