Great Blue Heron Week: June 1 - June 12
Join us for Great Blue Heron Week and explore Portland's official bird as you discover natural areas all around the city.
Join the Audubon Society of Portland, Urban Greenspaces Institute, and other partners in The Intertwine Alliance in celebrating Portland’s official city bird. The Great Blue Heron is an iconic species that represents the rich diversity of bird and other animal life native to the Portland-metro region.
Each year since the Portland City Council adopted the Great Blue Heron in 1986, the region has celebrated efforts to ensure the heron remains an icon for integrating built and natural environments. Great Blue Heron week is also an opportunity to celebrate our collective efforts to expand and protect natural areas that are home to herons and the plants and animals that make our region a special place to live.
Get out in a kayak, on a bicycle or on foot to enjoy our greenspace heritage and to consider what remains to be done. Explore the full schedule of Great Blue Heron Week events:
