Environmental groups want to put a stop to the dumping of contaminated dredge material on West Hayden Island. It's the latest in the ongoing battle over the future of the island.
For years environmental groups have wanted to preserve West Hayden Island as a wildlife area. When they learned the Port of Portland was dumping dredge material that contained low levels of contamination on the island, they were outraged.
