Fall Comes Swiftly in NW Portland
There are plenty of fall traditions, but in Northwest Portland, as the
leaves begin to fall, people gather to watch thousands of tiny birds
fill the sky like a chirping, black cloud above Chapman Elementary School.
Throughout
September, migrating Vaux's Swifts will stop and roost in at least half
a dozen sites in Portland on their way from British Columbia to Central
and South America, with Chapman's brick chimney drawing the largest
population in the world, according to the Audubon Society of Portland.
