The Oregon State Marine Board voted Thursday night to establish a low-speed, no-wake area in the southern section of the Holgate Channel, a section of the Willamette River on the east side of Ross Island.
The
3-2 vote was the culmination of a year-long effort by local
conservationists to preserve and rebuild the natural area and provide a
safe place for non-motorized recreation on the narrow, winding section
of the river.
