By Bill Monroe
The Oregonian

The Portland City Council will hold a hearing Wednesday about supporting a proposal that would limit boats to no-wake in Holgate Channel of the Willamette River and ban motors completely from Ross Island Lagoon. The Audubon Society of Portland, and other co-petitioners will ask the State Marine Board to establish these new zones for the benefit of nesting birds and other wildlife, as well as to provide kayakers and canoeists a safe place to paddle.
