Help Audubon's Wildlife Care Center Return an Injured Raptor to the Wild
Each year Audubon's Wildlife Care Center treats over 3,000 injured and orphaned birds. Our goal is to give each of these birds a second chance at life in the wild. Our Center is open every day of the year. We are almost entirely dependent on donations to do this work!
Bird of the Week
Western Screech Owl
This juvenile Western Screech Owl was found on the ground by children. He is about 22-23 days old. It is not uncommon for Screech Owls to leave the nest before they can fly. The parents will care for them on the ground until they become airborne. Unfortunately on closer inspection it became apparent that this youngster had also injured. He has a long, deep wound on his right wing. As a result the screech owl was rescued and brought to Audubon's Wildlife Care Center. By the time his wing heals, it will be too late to reunite him with his parents. Instead he will be raised at Audubon's Care Center with other young screech owls. He will learn to hunt in one of our large flight cages. When he is completely healed and experienced at flying and hunting, we will set him free back here he was found. The entire process will take 5-6 weeks.
You sponsorship will help cover the costs of returning him to the wild. It will cover medical expenses, food and lodging. Thank you for your support!
Sponsors will be kept updated on the progress of the bird and will be invited to view releases when possible.
