Bigleaf Lupine

Lupine - tammi miller Lupinus Polyphyllus

Leaves  palmately compound; 10-17 leaflets, to 12 cm long; longest leaf stalks basal, 10-60 cm long

Flowers blue to violet, pea-like, to 1.5 cm long; in dense clusters to 40 cm long.

Fruits hairy pods to 5 cm long

Ecology moist to wet, open habitats (streamside, wet meadows) and disturbed sites, at low to middle elevations

Notes: Lupines fix nitrogen, fertilizing poor soils.
