Birding Oaks Bottom - Mike Houck

Portland Audubon's Optics Selection

At the Nature Store, you’ll find a great selection of optics for nature observation, as well as an experienced and knowledgeable staff to assist you in finding the perfect optics to fit your needs. Take advantage of the opportunity to test binoculars and scopes in a natural setting at our Wildlife Sanctuary.

Binoculars: Our selection of binoculars comes from some of the world’s best optics manufacturers: Swarovski, Zeiss, Nikon, Leupold & Stevens, Vortex, Opticron, and Zen-ray. We carry more than 40 models ranging from bi-fold compacts that slip into your shirt pocket to full-sized HD models perfect for bird watching from dawn to dusk. Binocular prices range from under $100 to over $3000, with Portland Audubon members receiving a 10% discount off regular prices. View our price list. Most models we carry were selected as Cornell Labs “Top Picks” in their Autumn 2013 binocular review.

Sighting Scopes: We also carry a range of sighting scopes beginning with the very affordable Redfield Rampage, made by Leupold and Stevens for $325 (member price $292.50) up to the top-of-the-line Swarovski Optik modular ATX95 for $4920 (member price $4428). View our price list. Most of our scopes feature Extra-Low Dispersion/High-Definition Glass (HD, ED, XD or FL), including models made by Swarovski, Zeiss, Vortex, Opticron and Zen-ray. Many of our scopes are available with optional digiscoping attachments for photography, using either cameras or smartphones.

Tripods: Our Manfrotto tripods provide the perfect stable base for your sighting scope. Sold as separate components, you can pair legs made of either affordable aluminum or super-light-weight carbon fiber with a selection of heads for every purpose, including digiscoping. We’re also pleased to offer Swarovski Optik’s line of aluminum and carbon fiber tripod legs and their super light, ergonomically re-designed DH101 tripod head.
