Birding by Ear

Laura Whittemore's popular Birding By Ear classes are coming up!  Laura has developed a successful process for helping you learn to identify birds by their songs and other vocalizations.  An evening class introduces you to birding by ear and songs of some of the target birds.  Two field trips later you attend one more class where you review and add more birds.  A third and final field trip helps you put it all together.   This format gives you plenty of practice time and support as you train your ear.  Combine with this our free, volunteer led Morning Bird Song Walks and you'll be amazed how quickly you progress.

Birding By Ear - Resident Birds  (FULL)

Classes, Heron Hall (Mon) | 7-9pm | April 8 and 22 
Field Trips (Sun) | 7-10am | April 14, 21, 28
The April class focus is on learning songs and vocalizations of resident birds such as Song Sparrow, Spotted Towhee, Red-breasted Nuthatch and American Robin.

Fee: $75 members / $95 non-members

Birding By Ear – Migrant Birds (FULL)

Classes, Heron Hall (Mon) | 7-9pm | May 6 and 20
Field Trips (Sun) | 7-10am | May 12, 19, 26
This class focuses on identifying our migratory birds by sound.

Birding By Ear – Nesting Birds

Classes, Heron Hall (Mon) | 7-9pm | June 3 and 17
Field Trips (Sun) | 7-10am | June 9, 16, 23
June is still a time of bird song, but there are lots of other sounds being made as well.  Many birds are in nesting and family mode, so the pattern of singing may be different, the songs different, the reasons different!  Plus we’ll listen for all the contact calls, begging chick calls, etc.
