A Year for the Birds

Where: Albina Press, 5012 SE Hawthorne Blvd

As a Portland native and multidisciplinary artist, Alia Hoffman draws inspiration from the natural world found in the microclimates of the city, as well as in the lush macro-climates unique to the Pacific Northwest. Over the past few years she has been pushing her artistic practices by drawing every day for a full year - this time around, focusing on birds.

2018 was also when Hoffman began her journey into tattooing, which quickly took the lead as her main artistic focus. Hoffman's daily drawing goal was shortened a little, but she continued to draw birds throughout the year. Nearing 300 birds total, each drawing is now up for display as both an homage to the vast varieties of birds and to show what a dedicated year of drawing can produce.

Artwork will be on display at Albina Press for two months. For these two months, 10% of all sales will be donated to the Audubon Society of Portland.
