Each year, as part of National Volunteer Appreciation week, we pause to thank our volunteers and celebrate their positive impact on Bird Alliance of Oregon. Volunteers add breadth and depth to our work by putting our mission into action!

Bird Alliance of Oregon’s volunteers enrich our community with their personalities, skills, interests, and dedication. Their contributions expand the reach of our conservation mission in ways that limited paid staff would never be able to achieve.

Harry Nehls, a unique and treasured member of our flock, has led and supported Bird Alliance of Oregon for over 64 years! Harry recently retired from his Bird Alliance of Oregon volunteer work, and we are thrilled to take this opportunity to honor his commitment with a Lifetime Achievement award.

As part of volunteer appreciation week, we are sharing the tremendous impact our volunteers have had over the past year. In 2019, 605 volunteers contributed their time, energy, and expertise, totaling an incredible 48,966 hours of service.

Each year, Bird Alliance of Oregon staff nominate and honor a cadre of our most dedicated volunteers with the prestigious Mamie Campbell and Youth Leadership Awards. Volunteers who receive these awards are deeply committed, oftentimes putting in hundreds of hours each year, taking on roles in numerous areas of the organization, and working with us for years or sometimes even decades.
