We received two Cedar Waxwings from different locations: One of them had struck a window, and wasn’t able to fly and the other was caught by a cat, and had sustained multiple injuries. Thankfully they were both brought to our hospital soon after they were found, which gave them the best chance of survival and release.

Three orphaned baby Douglas Squirrels were discovered on the ground amongst some brush, shaking and squeaking. They looked sick, and were obviously too young to be on their own just yet, so they were brought to our Wildlife Care Center by a concerned good Samaritan.

We received a young Band-tailed Pigeon after its home had been destroyed due to clear cutting. The fledgling was in no shape to be on their own yet, and still needed parents for nutritional support and guidance so we stepped in to provide that care until the Band-tailed Pigeon was old enough to take care of itself in the wild.

Over the summer, we raised a mix-match litter of orphaned Striped Skunk babies in the Wildlife Care Center. Skunks are amazing animals, and despite their notorious stinky defense mechanisms, they are a favorite patient here at the center because of their shyness, complex behaviors, and let’s face it, irresistibly fuzzy faces.

We received a Western Tanager after a good Samaritan found them on the ground, unable to fly but still alive after colliding with a window at their home. Unfortunately most window strikes are lethal, with an estimated 50-75% of birds dying from the collision.

When a good Samaritan showed up at our Wildlife Care Center with an orphaned baby American Mink in early June, we knew we would have to raise her. Fortunately, she was a quick study and she learned how to forage and hunt for herself very quickly.

While many species were affected by the heat dome, Cooper’s Hawks seemed to be particularly hard-hit—a stunning 110 young Cooper’s Hawks passed through our door during that time period in a phenomenon that some began referring to as “hawkpocalypse” and that we are still trying to understand.

We received this Mallard from a rescuer who’d noticed the duck had fishing line hanging out of their mouth. We were able to successfully (and safely) dislodge the hook from the Mallards mouth, and with it all the fishing line!

Four orphaned Townsend’s Chipmunks were found inside of a car’s air filter and were brought to us. Without their parent, we raised them at the Wildlife Care Center until they were able to forage for themselves and be released.
