In December 2022, the Portland Audubon community lost a beloved member of the flock. James Davis, an amazing naturalist and educator, served as Portland Audubon’s first director of education and his vision and expertise laid the foundation for much of the programming that continues to this day.

This year we committed to expand access to camp by piloting a sliding scale payment model.

The Green Leaders program has grown from our long-term partnership with Hacienda CDC. At its core, our intention for this program was to increase access and representation in the environmental sciences and education through empowering young adults of color to be leaders and educators in their community and beyond.

This spring, Portland Audubon launched a brand-new, paid, nine-month youth leadership program in partnership with Hacienda Community Development Corporation. Through our new Green Leaders program, five young adults from Hacienda will act as educators and organizers, developing hyperlocal outdoor education in response to their neighbors’ pressing needs during the pandemic.
