COVID-19: Operations and Programs at Portland Audubon
Last Updated: May 26 at 8 a.m.
As circumstances surrounding COVID-19 (also called Coronavirus) evolve, we want to make sure our community is informed and can easily access information about any impacts to our programming and operations.
Updates to Programming and Operations
Portland Audubon is committed to meeting or exceeding recommendations from public agencies, reviewing a number of factors from the size of the event to the risk factors for audiences.
These are the programs that are currently affected. We will update this as needed. If you do not see a program listed, there has been no change to its operations.
Main Office Closed
Portland Audubon is closely monitoring COVID-19 and assessing how we can help slow the spread of the virus. To help achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to close down our offices, Interpretive Center and Nature Store to the public and suspend youth and adult education programs and events. Please check back here for updates on when we will reopen our main facilities.
Portland Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary Trails Remain Open
Our wildlife sanctuary trails on NW Cornell Road will remain open. If visiting, please keep the following in mind:
- Keep more that six feet of distance between you and other visitors, as ordered by Governor Brown.
- We currently do not have any restrooms for public use.
- We have no place to refill water bottles at the sanctuary.
- The Wildlife Care Center is only open for injured wildlife. Please do not
approach the Wildlife Care Center for any other reason.
Wildlife Care Center is Open
Our Wildlife Care Center will continue operating normal hours (every day from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) with reduced staffing to provide care for current patients, new intakes and our resident educational animals. The Wildlife Care Center has now moved to “no contact” drop offs for wildlife patients. Please click here to read our new protocols.
Nature Store is Closed for In-person Visits but Just Launched an Online Store
The Nature Store is currently closed to the public. However, they are taking phone orders Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., offering curbside pick-up, bird seed delivery, and virtual optics appointments Monday to Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Visit the new online store.
Based on state guidelines and increasing awareness regarding the spread of COVID-19, Portland Audubon has decided to cancel summer camps this year. This difficult decision was made with heavy hearts. We recognize that many families depend upon Portland Audubon camp as an important part of their children’s care and development. We also believe that not hosting camp will help continue to flatten the curve over the summer and ensure that we keep doing everything in our power to help contain this virus. Backyard Habitat Certification Program
Site assessments, certification visits, and participation in community events have been suspended. However, as many people have gotten in touch to tell us that they are taking solace in their garden, the Backyard Habitat team is posting tips on how to continue working on your habitat on Facebook. Follow them here.
There have been numerous changes to adult education programming. Please click here to see full details.
Volunteers will hear directly from Vicky Medley, Volunteer Manager, with updates on the program.
