Audubon Birding Day: Newport with Stefan Schlick
We will meet on the coast at 7:45 a.m. at Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint for a sea watch. There are lots of potential targets, depending on the conditions. It is a great time of the year for tubenoses (petrels and albatross), alcids (murres, guillemots, auklets, puffins, and murrelets), loons, and waterfowl to move south.
In Newport, we will check the Marine Science Center for shorebirds and late passerines and also work the south jetty. Snowy Plovers should be at South Beach State Park. We will end our day around 4 p.m. Please dress in layers and bring lunch. This is a self-driving trip.
