Birding Day: Newport

This is a self-driving day trip. We will meet at 7:45 a.m. at Boiler Bay State Scenic Wayside (44.8292, -124.0649). The day will end in Newport no later than 4:30pm. Bring lunch and dress for the weather.

After a seawatch at Boiler Bay, we will move south towards Newport, stopping in places like Depoe Bay, Devils Punchbowl State Park and Moolack Beach. In Newport proper we will stop at the Hatfield Marine Science Center and work the South Jetty for lingering loons, grebes, alcids (murres, puffins, etc) and waterfowl. The first shorebirds of the season will be on the mudflats in the bay. We hope for the song for the Wrentit and that Snowy Plovers are somewhere on the beaches.

Bird the coast this spring!

Join Stefan on a full-day adventure on the beautiful Oregon coast searching for sea birds, specialties and the first migrants
