Birding Day: Birding by Ear East of the Cascades

Juniper Flats, in Wasco County, is just on the other side of Mt. Hood from Portland but can feel like it’s on the other side of the country when it comes to bird life. We’ll tour the grasslands and agricultural areas of south Wasco County listening for the songs of central Oregon specialties like Vesper Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, and Townsend’s Solitaire. With luck, we may encounter a Grasshopper Sparrow or Loggerhead Shrike.

Participants will travel together in a van. We’ll meet at the Gresham Park & Ride. Participants should bring enough food and water to last them through the day.
