Autumn Gull Identification
Gulls can be a challenging group to identify. During the classroom session, local guide and author John Rakestraw will show you how to recognize our local wintering species by body size and shape, plumage, bill, and leg color. Late autumn is a great time to find a variety of gull species along the Oregon Coast. We will take a full-day trip to visit gull hotspots and practice your new skills the following Saturday. We expect to find nine, possibly up to twelve, gull species on this trip.
John Rakestraw writes and teaches about bird identification and bird finding. His articles have appeared in a variety of birding, natural history, and travel magazines.
