The Bird Days of Summer: Bike & Bird – Slough Run
Join Portland Audubon’s Education Team for The Bird Days of Summer, a series of super beginner-friendly programs for anyone curious about birds in nature. We’re combining community-building, exploration, and fun to create safe spaces for people to get to know each other as well as the birds. Binoculars will be provided, and we’ll begin each program with a short “how-to” to help you get started.
On this outing, we will meet at Delta/Vanport Park and Ride at around 7:30 am where we will start a 10-mile loop that will take us back to Delta Park. We will be making stops at Vanport Wetlands, Raceway Ponds, Smith and Bybee Wetlands, and Force Lake; all great places for the specialty birds we will be looking for. We will be biking at birders’ pace and keeping safety our number one priority. This is a “leave no bikers behind ride”, so we will be keeping a pace that allows us all to see and enjoy birds. Bring plenty of water, snacks, comfy shoes and dress for the weather. Sunscreen recommended. Helmets required. Beginners are welcomed, and binoculars will be provided. This event is open to birders of all levels.
