Bird Journals: For the Joy of It!

A monthly Saturday class with Jude Siegel

A gentle guide to learning to record the birds in a visual nature journal, with drawing and watercolor. Beginners welcome! Lots of support and encouragement, as you gently learn to see differently, and to draw and paint joyfully. The process is emphasized, as is awareness and relaxation.

No art experience needed. This is a monthly Saturday class. You may take one or more of the series! Each class is complete in itself with a focus and exercises.

August 24: Summer Birds and Their Surroundings
Let’s capture some birds of Summer and practice ways to suggest different environments: water, sky,
grasses, woods and more.

Keep your journals simple and yet, depicting the birds you want on your pages.

September 21: Getting the Gist
Practice simplifying and drawing and painting only what is needed. New ways of seeing, so you are able to draw what is there. Add some paint…again, simply and effectively suggesting the bird you are wanting to record.

October 12: Birds in Fall
Discover simple ways to suggest the colors and shapes of Fall foliage and surroundings, in addition to placing your birds so they have life and character.

November 2: Bird Coloration and Markings
Fun ways to create patterns and suggest markings, simplifying as we go.
