We begin in Lakeview, where we can easily reach the Warner Wetlands, Lake Abert, and Summer Lake, as we search for Eared Grebes, Black Terns, Black-crowned Night-Herons and Yellow-headed Blackbirds. Birds will abound on this great adventure and we are sure to have memorable views of American Avocets, Black-necked Stilts, Wilson’s Phalarope ,Snowy Plover, Sage Thrasher, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Green-tailed Towhee. A special night time excursion will be made to look for the Common Poorwill. Our last night is spent in Bend so we may stop in the Ponderosa Pine forests around Sisters on our way home. This habitat is ideal for White-headed Woodpecker, Calliope Hummingbird and Pinyon Jay.
We’re sure to see many species of birds as well as wildflowers and butterflies in this remote region of Oregon. Come along with Portland Audubon to discover and bird this unique part of Oregon.
