In this class, we’ll focus on mountain bird vocalizations, building upon skills and techniques covered in the Beginning Birding by Ear series. These intermediate classes are the perfect way to sharpen your birding by ear skills! Please register separately for each class.

Summer is the perfect time to visit the mountains, and this virtual class is the perfect way to hone your ears for the birdsong you’ll hear there. We’ll listen to the calls and songs of mountain specialties like Hermit Warbler, Red Crossbill, and our vocal tricksters, the Canada Jay, as we work on ways to separate these montane breeders in the field.

Meet the Instructor

Brodie Cass Talbott

Brodie works as an educator with Portland Audubon. After many years of wildland firefighting and leading river tours, he spent six years living and teaching across Asia, where his interest in birds became his passion. He has birded across five continents, and uses his experience in education and ecotourism to share his love of the outdoors with people from all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, with an eye towards increasing access to wild spaces for people from diverse communities.
