Birding with Kindness with Faraaz Abdool
Recent humanity does not have a history of treading carefully in nature. Consequently, we have lost staggering amounts of wildlife and natural spaces over the last hundred years. As birders, we can often easily cross the line of being unintentionally harmful to the birds we love simply because we need to be made aware of exactly where this line is.
Most times, while birding, we are spending time in their habitat – think of it as if you have a good friend and you visit that friend in their home for a bit. While there, you would naturally try to be on your best behavior as you do not wish to offend or otherwise make your friend uncomfortable. The same goes for birds! Except, of course, the consequences for them are much more dire. When birding, this is the consideration we can always take with us.
