Bird Journaling with Jude: Journaling in the Field, How to Record Moving Birds

*This is an in-person class to be held indoors at Bird Alliance of Oregon following our current COVID guidelines. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 48 hours of class and masks are required.

Journaling in the Field, How to Record Moving Birds

You’ll learn some tricks of drawing to use in the field. Then you’ll learn to develop full journal pages by using your paints to add color and other approaches to your sketches.

Each class is complete in itself, and adds skills and ideas. No art experience needed! Relaxation, and awareness help learn new ways of seeing, and then of drawing and using watercolor simply. For joy, not mastery! Come to one or more, and discover this wonderful way to notice and record the birds you love, wherever you may be.

Register for each class separately. Space is limited to 8 participants per session.

Class Details

  • Fee: $55 members / $75 non-members per session

  • Where: Classes will be held inside Heron Hall at Bird Alliance of Oregon, 5151 NW Cornell Road, Portland, OR 97210
  • When: Saturday, May 21, 2022, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Supply List: Please bring supplies to the class in a pack or bag you can carry easily. Read carefully before you go to the store and contact Jude (colorfuljude@gmail.com or 503-977-1439) with questions. 
  • Bring lunch, snacks, and a water bottle.
  • Classes are limited to 8 participants.
Meet the Instructor

Jude Siegel

Our instructor, Jude Siegel, is a naturalist, artist, and teacher with a passion for birds, and for journaling. She teaches Nature Journaling in the Portland area: in addition to classes for Bird Alliance of Oregon, Jude teaches at Multnomah Art Center, for Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and at her studio.
