During this “stay at home” era, finding ways to connect with nature and the outdoors is more important than ever. The Birding From Home classes are designed to help backyard birders take a deeper dive into the wonder of local birds and the healing power of nature. Lectures will run 50 minutes and we’ll have a live question and answer section at the end.

Bird Sounds 101 Species usually announce their presence by distinctive vocalizations, and learning bird sounds is a rich and rewarding addition to your bird-watching toolkit. We will cover some of the biology of bird song, then build on our identification skills by getting familiar with a few of the most prominent songs in the local avian soundscape.

Class Details

Class: July 14, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Class fee: $20 members / $30 non-members
ZOOM: A link to the virtual class will be emailed to you, along with instructions, one to two days before your class.
Please register separately for each class.

Meet the Instructor

Dan van den Broek

Dan has over 15 years of experience leading international birding trips and teaching classes for Bird Alliance of Oregon. With prior experiences at Point Reyes Bird Observatory, Redwood Sciences Lab, Klamath Bird Observatory, Costa Rica Bird Observatory, and Avifauna Northwest, Dan brings immense enthusiasm and passion for birds and natural history to all of his trips.

Meet the Instructor

Candace Larson

Candace is an avid birder, mycology geek, and native plant enthusiast, with a passion for the diverse ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest. Candace leads domestic and international ecotours and teaches classes with a focus on bird biology and habitat preservation. She also works as a Field Biologist in Bird Alliance of Oregon’s Conservation program, helping statewide partners meet their avian conservation goals.
