Audubon Birding Day: Shorebirds on the Coast with John Rakestraw *FULL*
For just a few weeks in the spring, large flocks of shorebirds work their way north along the Oregon Coast. Many of these birds are in their most colorful plumage of the year, making them easier to identify. This trip will explore some of the best sites from Seaside north to Fort Stevens, including the rocky shore of Seaside Cove, the Necanicum Estuary, stretches of sandy beach, and the mouth of the Columbia River. Our targets include Ruddy Turnstone and Red Knot, along with many more common species.
While we will be driving from site to site, there will be some walking on sand. Bring food and water. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Participants will drive themselves.
Masks are optional on this outdoor program.
