Audubon Birding Day: Experiencing Migration at the North Coast
Early September is full-swing southbound migration for millions of birds heading towards wintering grounds from their northern breeding grounds. On this full-day, self-driving Audubon Birding Day we’ll look for shorebirds along sandy beaches and rocky shorelines, search for passerines in forest patches, and keep an eye out for raptors on the move.
We’ll start the day at the Seaside Cove looking for rockpipers and seabirds, slowly making our way north until we end the day in the Astoria area around 4 p.m. Birders of all experience levels are welcome – we’ll work on the IDs of these birds as we go. Make sure to bring a lunch and dress for the weather.
This trip is the field portion for our Experiencing Migration online class; enrollment in that class is not required to participate in this trip.
