Join Erin to bird together at Wapato Access Greenway State Park along Virginia Lake on the western edge of Sauvie Island. This park contains rare oak savannah and an extensive wetland around Virginia Lake. The riparian deciduous woods at Wapato Access may contain some lingering migrant species, such as Purple Martin, Swainson’s Thrush, Wilson’s Warbler, and many other species typical to Sauvie Island.

Every level of experience and inexperience is more than welcome and celebrated on this morning program.
Meet at the Wapato Access Trailhead. No parking permit is required.
Please note that there are no restrooms at this location.
Bring water, snacks, and dress for the weather.

Trail: Forest floor with uneven terrain and some mud.

Amenities (bathrooms and parking): NO BATHROOMS AT THIS LOCATION. Limited parking at the parking lot.

Erin fell in love with birding while working at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. After college, she studied Red-throated Loons, Common Loons and shorebird migration at Grays Harbor, Washington. Erin is passionate about the natural histories of birds, conservation, and advocating for environmental and social justice. She has traveled throughout Latin America and East Africa and loves nothing more than sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for birds and the natural world, and for all cultures around the world.
