Harney County After Dark: The River Styx: An Owl Tour

Throughout history various cultures have considered owls omens – sometimes bad omens or omens of death. The River Styx tour isn’t a tour of the underwordly River Styx, though it is a tour of the watersheds of the Harney Basin.

From grasslands to forests and the wetlands in between, the Harney Basin is home to a diversity of owl species. This virtual owl tour will travel from the south end of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, starting at Page Springs Campground, along the grasslands and wetlands of the Blitzen Valley, through Burns/Hines along the Silvies River, and into Malheur National Forest. Possible species include: long-eared, short-eared, burrowing, great horned, flammulated, northern pygmy-owl, and barn owls.
