The Wonders of Oaxaca
This trip is designed to visit the best sites across Oaxaca, traveling from high mountains all the way to the Pacific. We’ll meet in Oaxaca City, traveling with our local guide to the pine-oak forests of Benito Juarez National Park looking for Red Warbler and Mountain Trogon.
For the next two days, we’ll visit the scrubby habitats around Oaxaca City, looking for Ocellated Thrasher and Blue Mockingbird. A visit to Monte Alban might turn up endemics like Slaty Vireo, but the main attraction is the archaeological site that dates to 500 BC and is known as the most important cultural site in the state.
From there, we’ll travel high into the mountains, where Bumblebee Hummingbirds and Cinnamon-bellied Flowerpiercers forage on plants flowering at 8,000 feet. From here, we’ll head down towards the coast, visiting tropical deciduous forests, looking for Russet-crowned Motmots and Emerald Toucanet.
We’ll end the trip with a mini-pelagic trip, heading out onto the ocean to look for Galapagos Shearwaters and Black Storm-petrels. Our trip will end as we fly out of Huatulco International Airport.
