PCC Rock Creek Community Science Orientation and Training: Beginning Birders
Join Candace Larson, Portland Audubon Field Biologist, for an orientation/training on a brand new Community Science project in a beautiful greenspace next to Rock Creek Community College.
Help us understand how birds are responding to habitat restoration efforts as you bird along a trail. The goal of this project is to collect baseline information on the bird communities that use this greenspace as Clean Water Services implements a long-term floodplain enhancement project at this site. This project aims to maintain a healthy Rock Creek watershed while also providing quality wildlife habitat and connectivity.
This training is for beginners and will be geared toward folks who are currently learning their PNW birds! We’ll include an hour of Birding 101 before the training to help you get familiar with some of the more common birds on the site, then guide you through the protocol and walking route.
Portland Audubon has developed an easy-to-follow protocol for birders to collect key bird data to inform this effort.
