The Portland area is fortunate to host a number of woodpecker species, ranging from the diminutive Downy to the prodigious Pileated. In this class we’ll take a close look, and listen, to the eight woodpecker species found in the Portland area, examining their natural history and identification, as well as where to find them. In the following class, Woodpeckers of Oregon, we’ll look at the other species of woodpeckers found in Oregon.
