Pacific Northwest Trip: Oregon’s Wild Southern Coast with Brodie Cass Talbott *2 spots left*
*This is a self-catered trip. Lodging, transportation and meals are your responsibility.
Escape the crowds (and maybe even the rain!) with a trip to Oregon’s rugged South Coast, the least developed part of the Oregon Coast, with one of the highest densities of parkland in the nation. Coos and Curry county boast incredible landscapes and bountiful wildlife.
On this three-day, self-catered trip, we’ll visit some of the top birding sites in the state, searching for Marbled Murrelet at Cape Arago, watching for waders, and White-tailed Kite at Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, and enjoying Black Oystercatcher and Black Turnstone at Chetco Point. With luck, we may catch up with a Snowy Egret along the Rogue River or an Elegant Tern near the California border. And, of course, we’ll stop in at Simpson Reef to enjoy the spectacle of hundreds of seals and sea lions.
Participants will rendezvous at 9:30 a.m. in Coos Bay, where we will overnight on Friday night after a full day of birding the area. On Saturday, we will head south, exploring hotspots en route to our Saturday night lodging in Brookings. On Sunday, we will explore the Brookings area before making our way North, ending our day around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Coos Bay area.
