San Blas, Mexico

Our trip will begin in Puerto Vallarta where we will stay for one night before driving up to San Blas on the first birding day. We will make stops for Orange-breasted Bunting (the Mexican counterpart to our Painted Bunting!) and Flammulated Flycatcher en route.

Register today to travel with us to Mexico!

By choosing to travel with Portland Audubon, you are supporting our conservation work here in the Pacific Northwest.

In the San Blas area we will bird renowned places like Cerro San Juan, Singayta, La Bajada and Chacalilla. We will target Red-headed Tanager, Fan-tailed and Crescent-chested Warbler, Russet-crowned Motmot, Rosy Thrush-Tanager, Red-breasted Chat, Rufous-necked Wood-Rail and a slough of other birds. A boat ride out to Elephant Rock should yield nice looks at Brown and Blue-footed Booby and there is a good chance for Red-billed Tropicbird. The feature birds on an evening cruise along the river are Boat-billed Heron, Northern Potoo and Bare-throated Tiger-Heron. We should see a few species of owls as well, with Mottled having been at the hotel the last few years. Ferruginous and Colima Pygmy-Owl are very likely to be seen.
