Field Trip: Thursday Morning at Smith & Bybee
Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the parking lot for Smith and Bybee Wetlands.
Late September is a wonderful time to go birding. Join Erin to explore and bird the 2,000-acre tidal freshwater wetland, a true Portland-area gem. If we are lucky, the weather will still be nice. We will be towards the end of fall migration and can expect to see migrating shorebirds, songbirds, and maybe some raptors.
Depending on water levels, we may find some sandpipers, yellowlegs, and a variety of waterfowl, such as the stunning Wood Duck or the subtly beautiful Gadwall. There will likely be some lingering songbird migrants, such as Common Yellowthroat, Yellow Warbler, and swallows. And wintering birds will be returning, such as kinglets and sorrowful songed Golden-crowned Sparrow.
Bring snacks and water. Please dress for the weather.
