Virtual Brown Pelican Survey – Community Science Training (Optional)

The upcoming May 20 pelican survey has been filled.  You are still more than welcome to join this training. The next pelican count will be in September 2021.

Important changes due to COVID-19:  The Brown Pelican Survey is currently moving forward under the following guidelines:

  • Only conduct surveys on your own or with members of your immediate household or pod.
  • If members of the public are encountered during the survey, all social distancing policies will be adhered (remain at least 6 feet away, bring sanitizer/disinfectant with you and clean your hands before and after your survey)

_______________________________

Although the Brown Pelican was removed from the Endangered Species List in 2009, new threats are challenging this bird’s survival. The goal of these surveys is to help us define the distribution and abundance of Brown Pelicans and track shifts in population structure to help us better protect this majestic bird. Learn more about the Brown Pelican Survey here.

If you would like to learn more about this amazing bird and are interested in helping with Bird Alliance of Oregon’s community science effort to monitor Brown Pelicans, consider attending this informational presentation and training. The optional training will cover Brown Pelican life history, conservation challenges they face, and instructions on how to participate in our pelican survey program.
