Writing Haiku in Nature

Writing haiku is for everyone! Haiku is a traditional, short form of Japanese poetry through which the poet conveys their experience of nature via a simple written formula. Using this simple formula, anyone can write haiku! This class introduces participants to classical haiku poetry, and guides them to write their own haiku poems while spending time in nature.

Deep Birding through the Seasons: Peak Migration with Dan van den Broek and Candace Larson *FULL*

Join Dan and Candace as we use a slower approach to connecting with nature with a focus on understanding birds. From March through July, we’ll dive deep into our senses, focusing on awareness and intention, careful observation, inspired field journaling and basic illustration and mindfulness. At the height of diversity and abundance in our region, module 2 will help you connect more deeply with the life stories of these amazing world travelers.

Botany for Birders: Rose City Flowers with Ryan Gilpin

Join local arborist, ecologist and birder Ryan Gilpin on a series of classes designed to help birders explore the plant world. Every month, Ryan will focus on a particular characteristic of trees (such as leaves or bark) and use that character to understand more about the plant. This session will focus on flowers. Through coupled classroom and field sessions Ryan will help you increase your ability to describe that plant and connect to the natural world around you.
