Help Improve Management of the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve

Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (ODFW) is developing a site management plan for the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve (located off Oswald West State Park between Cannon Beach and Manzanita) and wants to hear from you! Take this quick 10 question survey to let them know how they can best share information and engage communities around Cape Falcon Marine.

(See Portland Audubon’s talking points below)

This survey is particularly relevant for north coast residents, vacation home owners, and people who visit the north coast. Your input will be used to help develop communication and engagement strategies to:

  • Help ensure efficient and effective communications to keep you up-to-date on happenings and findings at Cape Falcon
  • Further develop ways to engage communities and for ODFW to highlight community efforts
  • Help strengthen ecological and socio-economic monitoring as well as compliance and enforcement at Cape Falcon Marine Reserve.

Talking Points

  • Thank ODFW for the opportunity to provide input on the management plan
  • Encourage ODFW to share public-friendly up-to-date results of both their ecological and human dimensions (socio-economic) monitoring programs at Cape Falcon and in comparison to the other reserves with an emphasis on:
  • Does the current wealth of data collected in the reserves over the years indicate adverse significant impact to ocean users and communities?
  • How has the ODFW Marine Reserves program benefited ocean users and communities?
  • How is work at Cape Falcon and the other reserves increases knowledge of the ocean?
  • Encourage ODFW to support ecological research that will gauge connectivity of marine live between reserves
  • Encourage ODFW to follow up on their first round of human dimensions (socio-economic) monitoring at Cape Falcon (and other marine reserves) before the 2023 legislative evaluation.
  • Encourage ODFW to support existing and new community science projects that complement ODFW’s implementation monitoring.

If you have specific ideas on new research projects, community events, or communications strategies, let them know!
