Head to Oregon’s “dryside” to practice birding by ear with Brodie Cass Talbott. We’ll explore dry prairie habitats in search of birds like Townsend’s Solitaire, Vesper Sparrow, and Western Meadowlark. This trip is the companion to our “Birding by Ear: East of the Cascades” class.

Audubon Birding Day: Sherrard Point at Larch Mountain

Join Ross on a summer visit to the site of an ancient shield volcano and the highest point in the Boring Lava Fields, at around 4.100 feet. These old-growth forests of Western Hemlock, Noble Fir, and Douglas-fir are rich in birdlife with opportunities to see/hear westside Cascade summer residents such as Sooty Grouse, Northern Pygmy-Owl, Hammond’s Flycatcher, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Canada Jay, Red Crossbill, and Hermit Warbler.
